PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY for CANCER

The principle of Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is this: If you are able to obtain the selective accumulation of a light absorbing agent such as Chlorophyll, Spirulina, or similar material in a cancer cell and then produce a severe photoreaction or fluorescence within the cell by exposing it to a specific frequency of light, then you can achieve cell death.

The photoreaction within the cells is believed to be in the form of the production of free radicals or singlet cells. These free radicals then attack and destroy the membranes of vital structures such as mitochondria and lysozomes within the cancer cells resulting in cell death.

Because the light absorbing agents accumulate in a ratio of 35:1 in cancer cells compared with normal cells, side effects from damage to normal cells is virtually non existent. This is in stark contrast to chemotherapy, which damages healthy cells to an alarming degree, resulting in enormous, and at times life threatening, side effects.

A research paper prepared from work done in Russia at the Chelyabinsk State University and State Medical Academy describes the use of Photodynamic therapy for the treatment of malignant tumours and the excellent results obtained from this treatment.

The results of treatment in this particular paper indicate that of the 52 cases treated 65% had complete remission of tumours and 31% had a partial remission of tumours. This is a total of an incredibly high 96% cancer remission! These results cannot in any way be reproduced from any studies following chemotherapy or radiotherapy. And confirm the supremacy of this type of treatment.

Another overseas study in Ireland reports that after treating 4,500 patients over a period of 5 years, it was noted that the majority of patients had improved significantly. They treated over 25 different kinds of cancers including bowel, breast, lung, pancreas, prostate, stomach, brain (glioma and astrocytoma), Hodgkin’s disease, skin cancers (BCC and SCC), leukaemia and lymphoma.

Over the last 2 years this group similarly reports that over 80% of patients had complete or nearly complete remission of their cancers.

It is therefore exciting to know that the Fountain of Life Clinic now has a fully functional PDT unit with associated sauna/ozone equipment and solarium unit to maximise the effect of the light absorbing agents. The technique has been designed to duplicate the Russian protocol where research has continued over a ten year period. It is regretfully noted that some centres have varied the Russian technique, with subsequent poor results and this tends to throw the PDT technology into disrepute, which is entirely unwarranted. Because it is non invasive PDT is an excellent treatment with minimal side effects.

The Australian technique adapted by Fountain of Life has improved the Russian protocol by the addition of ozone with sauna followed by a modified solarium therapy using the same light frequency as the light emitting diodes of the PDT.

This technique will therefore enhance the presently offered services of Laetrile therapy, Ukrain infusions, high dose Vitamin C infusions and chelation therapy offered to cancer and chronic illness sufferers. It also indicates the way in which the directors of the Clinic are keeping up to date with world standards in cancer therapy. For example later in 2004 another technique known as dendritic cell therapy will also be introduced.

Functionally PDT has the same effect as the Tronado machine utilised by Dr John Holt in Perth. The results of treatment are very similar, virtually side effect free and performed by trained experts.
